Mac experience
I am posting this from Mac OS X 10.3.5.
As a Windows and *nix user’s perspective, Mac’s GUI is a beautiful monster. I spent half of today to update my OS and install necessary softwares. The “Software updates” did not work correctly and started complaining about permission on my “/tmp/” directory while the permission was fine. So after discussing this with Shaahin (the best Mac guy around), I decided to install updates manually from apple website, and this time it worked fine.
I downloaded and installed more than 150 megabytes of softwares for my newly installed OS! And system asked to reboot for almost every update I installed. The most annoying part was system optimization after each installation (which I guess is something like disk defragment in PC world).
The other annoying this was the iChat. If you type fast, you’ll find it very annoying. It will block you from sending messages if you type very fast. And the native MSN and Yahoo messenger for MAC are very old and outdated. Not comparable to their Windows version.
And one other point. Safari is a great browser. And it supports tabs. cool! But the funny point is that I couldn’t figure out how to open a tab so far. Trying Firefox 0.10pre was a failure too, because it crashed on first launch.
OS X is a very elegant operating system, but for a PC user its a monster. After all, the only thing I like the best in it is the familiar terminal window (shell) and tcsh environment.

hmm in safari -> preferences -> tabs -> enable tab browsing
then Apple+T
Yes, just figured it out. But should an “important feature” be disabled by default? isn’t it wierd?
For IM, try Fire (http://fire.sourceforge.net/) and use Firefox (Safari isn’t worth the hassle).
I prefer Adium for IM client, you might too if you’re a gaim fan.
And Safari is too slow for me, and not very “mac” (apple+m should minimize damnit. and that “phantom window” still shows up in expose). Grab AcidSearch http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/15495 to add some search engines to the search bar and you’re all set.
hey babak:) i just wanted to dl FreeSBIE but i found no Direct link & i hate bittorrent , do u know any direct http link ?

Ali: I definietly did not run firefox from disk image! It was copied to harddisk. I also tried running several versions (0.9.3 and RC1), and it didn’t help.
I have the same problem with Mozilla itself, while safari works like a charm.
And for the messenger, I discovered and used fire, and it was very nice.
BTW, Did you know you have FreeBSD under that beautiful aqua interface?
Try removing ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox and ~/Library/Application Support/Mozilla then try again.(also try Camino and see if it works)
If it still does not work I suggest you to report your problem to the bugzilla. (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/).
BTW, yes I knew that, they are using BSD since 1988(NeXT), but their Operating Systems have many improvements that make them incomparable with FreeBSD at least for Desktop use!
Good Luck.
