Blogrolling is dying
If you have a blog and using Blogrolling service, you know what I’m saying. Even worse, there is no mention of these service problems on their news site.
Its time to find a better solution, but I haven’t found one yet. Do you know any alternative service?
Third party software problem
Two words: Zempt Sucks!
Why? Let me tell you the story:
I was aware of different windows clients for posting to weblogs without logging into their web based interface and writing through their standard input method. I always tried some of them. But I did it for test reason. I am too much curious.
This is where Zempt comes in. I heard people talking about the Zempt. It is a windows based client for posting blog entries to Movable Type based blogs using XML-RPC. Thats fine. So I thought it would be fine to give it a try. and I did, but I wish I didn’t!
I was too sleepy and tired. so prepared a test entry and posted it as a “draft”. It means it should not appear in my blog, it should only be saved for future use. and after posting draft I went to sleep.
Today morning, I met a close friend and we started talking about many things until he told me that he read my blog but he couldn’t post comment to my last entry, titled “Teaching, Finding a new person inside yourself“. WTF? I didn’t post that. It was not supposed to be posted. That was only a test.
Damn you Zempt. I didn’t want to post this entry. It supposed to be a test entry to see how things work using Zempt. And it didn’t even rebuild the pages correctly. Only the main page was rebuilt, without creating an individual entry for the post.
And here is why I do not trust those softwares. I always prefer the MT interface, even if its creepy. And sorry for the previous post (I am not going to remove it though!)
Compression utilities comparison
There is many compression software and algorithms available today. Many people are still using zip (the oldie but goodie) while many others are cult of RAR. In UNIX, the gzip is the classic and widely used compression program, but bzip2 seems to have many fans either. Mac users are still using StuffIt since I guess they have no more choice! (Correct me if I am wrong please)
You are also using your favorite compression program with your very own custom settings perhaps, which fit the best for your needs.
Everything that we know about our favorite compression program is that it “feels” faster or “probably” makes smaller archives. But have you ever tested different programs yourself to compare them? I did.
Internet Traffic Engineering
If you are involved in high-end IP network engineering, I highly recommend reading RFC 3272:
Internet traffic engineering is defined as that aspect of Internet network engineering dealing with the issue of performance evaluation and performance optimization of operational IP networks.
Traffic Engineering encompasses the application of technology and scientific principles to the measurement, characterization, modeling, and control of Internet traffic.
IETF’s Internet Traffic Engineering Charter website has a complete set of drafts and proposed standards on the subject.
Time to fly
I really loved to become an airliner pilot when I was a teen. Seriously. But my way of my life turned, and now I am far from what I really wanted to be.
Anyway, I said those stuff just to tell you that I love flying, especially commercial airliners. I spend some quality time with flight simulators, and especially hanging out at AIRLINERS.NET that is really “Home of the top Aviation Photographers in the world!”. Even if you don’t like flying, you will enjoy their excellent photos.
p.s. I swear this will be my last non-geek entry.
VuXML again
Remember VuXML? There are more news about it.
VuXML is a markup language designed for the documentation of security issues within a single package collection. Since about February of this year, we have been diligently documenting vulnerabilities in FreeBSD and the FreeBSD Ports Collection using VuXML.
The Project’s VuXML document is maintained in the FreeBSD repository, path ports/security/vuxml/vuln.xml. Any FreeBSD committer may make updates to this file.
The FreeBSD security officer acts as editor.

For enthusiasts, there is also an XML feed available. Add it to your favorite RSS reader and stay up to date.
OpenBSD fan? No problemo! There is also an OpenBSD version available.
My sound card doesn’t work
A little bit rant here:
All my FreeBSD boxes are always running the latest, bleeding edge code from master CVS server. No, not the servers. My laptop, work machine and home machine to be accurate.
But after upgrading to 5.2-CURRENT a couple of month ago my sound card on home machine (ESS Maestro-1) stopped working. I tried removing PCM device from kernel configuration and using KLD module instead without any luck. Updating to the newer sources wasn’t also helpful. Until I recently discovered that this is a software glitch in 5.2. Other users had already submitted an error report.
Its really annoying. I already tried to find out what is wrong by reading the driver source code. But I didn’t almost understand how does it work. The only thing I can do now is to wait for someone who can solve this issue.
Rejecting Gmail emails
Not a good start for Gmail. Some sysadmins have decided to reject inbound emails from Gmail:
Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately, due to potential privacy and confidentiallity considerations, we are not accepting inbound email from Google’s Gmail service. In order for us to respond to your email, you will need to resend it from a different email account.

UNIX and Zen
I haven’t been surfing web and digging the new for pas couple of days.
I spend half one third of my day to teach, another third to study zen and the remaining part to sleep.
Just one important note for all those vi fanatics. I was working with one of those original VIs which does not have all fancy vim additions. I suggest you giving the original VI a try. Chances are that you’ll hate it once you screw up your first file. You actually love VIM, not VI.
Hobbies
I believe everyone should have an alternate hobbie in his life. Many people that I know have a second thing to love in their life.
Someone likes hanging out with his friends while the other loves watching movies. Some people like cooking while many other like music.
Some people love their alternatie habbit. Like one of my friends that loves music (his site is in persian and is about music, mostly about jazz genre) and music is an important part of his life.
Personally I havn’t found my alternative hobby yet. Maybe listeting to music, but this is something that everyone else in the world is doing. Maybe photography is my second hobby. I am not sure yet.
Have you ever thought about your alternative hobby?
