Interview with the FreeBSD Core Team
An interesting interview with FreeBSD Core Team by OSNews:
It is a long read, but we touch a number of hot issues, from the Java port to corporate backing, the Linux competition, the 5.x branch and how it stacks up against the other Unices, UFS2, the possible XFree86 fork, SCO and its Unix IP situation, even re-unification of the BSDs. If you are into (any) Unix, this interview is a must read.
NetBoz Firewall
If you are looking for a low-cost firewall solution, here is one:
NetBoz works over standard FreeBSD services, giving maximum flexibility, ease of use and performance to corporate networks. Do you need more power? just add hardware. No user licences to pay for, no costly upgrades, no brand dependance.
NetBoz is a live CD. It does not use a hard disk, while all the settings are stored on a write-protectable diskette, making it virtually inmune to intrusions and power failures.
Sounds good so far! But I recommend you giving it a try. It would be the firewall of your choice. Who knows?
The Art of Unix Programming
The Art of Unix Programming by Eric Steven Raymond is available online.
A worth reading for all Unix addicts.
Opera is Spyware?
Do you remember Opera’s claim about microsoft?
Now someone claimed that Opera is spying on his pc and transmitting his surfing information to somewhere on internet.
The reasons he is pointing out does not prove anything from a technical point of view, but the whole story is interesting.
There is also reactions on this subject.

Kopete
Kopete is my favorite messenger when I boot into my Unix.
It has almost everything I need: Its easy to use, well integrated into KDE, supports MSN protocol very well, has nice plugins, has tray popups, nice sounds and a neat user interface.
What else do I need?
Hedgehog is back
My favorite game character is back: This time on Palm’s Tungsten-T PDA.
PC emultaor was already available for fans.
Stripping ^M from windows text files
Just a tip for sysadmins which are tired of ^M characters in their text files:
$ col -bx < input_file > output_file
Easy, huh?

25 hours a day
Maintaining a weblog is not easy. Especially when you work more than 10 hours a day, maintain other community websites, surf, read books and watch TV everyday. You should sleep less and be online more.
I didn’t have enough time to discover all new Yahoo! search features.
Also had no time to learn TCL
Server uptime monitoring
My favorite uptime monitoring services are Netcraft (which is like a weblog now) and Uptimes Project.
The first monitors your HTTP Server while the second service needs you to install a client program on your server.
